Wine Without Walls

Wine Without Walls is the section of 5StarWines dedicated to certified organic or biodynamic wine. The goal is to raise awareness of sustainable viticulture by including them in the 5StarWines guide; the selection of wines that stand out in preserving the naturalness of the soil, vines and their products. Wine Without Walls is also an opportunity to recognize and enhance the commitment of biodynamic and organic farming producers at an international level; they are active in defining new sustainable horizons both in the vineyard and in the cellar.

THE ASSESSMENT

The dedicated Wine Without Walls jury evaluates biodynamic and organic certified wines in the same way as is done for 5StarWines. The panel of judges assigns the partial scores by submitting each wine presented to a visual, olfactory and gustatory examination: the average score of these criterion produces a final score, expressed in hundredths.

THE SELECTION

Wines that, due to their organic and biodynamic characteristics, scoring 90/100 or higher are included in the special section of Wine Without Walls in the 5StarWines – the Book guide with their respective score. As well as being an important recognition and informative contribution, the Guide is also an effective promotional and commercial tool, distributed to an international audience of commercial operators and professionals.

WHAT’S NEW: RULES OF PARTICIPATION

Participation in Wine Without Walls is reserved for companies whose wines have obtained an organic certification (European Regulation 203/2012, published in the Official Journal of the EU on March 9, 2012) or biodynamic certification or, alternatively, is obtained from land in the process of conversion.

For this reason, companies must send a copy of the certificates issued by the chosen inspection body, inside the wine packaging.

Participation in the specific section Wine Without Walls excludes the possibility of registering the same products to 5StarWines and vice versa. If the winery registers these wines in the 5StarWines section, the organizers will move them to the correct section.

THE EVENT

The blind tasting of organic and biodynamic wines enrolled in Wine Without Walls takes place parallel to the 5StarWines judging.

THE JURY

The evaluation and selection of wines enrolled in Wine Without Walls is carried out by a dedicated jury made up of professionals specialized in wine obtained from biodynamic and organic farming practices. The jurors are selected internationally and coordinated by Monty Waldin, author and consultant expert in wines of this category.

Wines that may enter the Wine Without Walls section are: still wines, classic methods, sparkling, sweet and fortified.
